With over three decades of experience in elder law, estate planning, asset protection, Veteran’s affairs, and special needs planning, Rory has established himself as a dedicated advocate for the elderly and their families.

Rory’s path to founding GuideWISE was deeply personal. Having witnessed both his parents’ struggles with dementia and Alzheimer's disease over a decade-long journey, he recognized the pressing need for comprehensive care navigation that transcends traditional estate planning. This experience instilled in him a profound understanding of the emotional and practical challenges that families face, driving him to create a platform that addresses the full continuum of care needs.

The author of The Family Estate Planning and Elder Law Guide, Rory is a respected voice in the community, regularly speaking on a range of topics from elder law to special needs.

Dedicated to his community in Loudoun County, Rory has served as Vice Chairman of the Loudoun County Zoning Board of Appeals since his reappointment in 2020, showcasing his long-term commitment to public service. His professional contributions also include serving on the Board of Directors for the Virginia Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (VAELA) as the Chair of the Member Relations and Communications Committee, and in 2022, he was recognized as one of two Qualified Master Counselors in Virginia.

At the heart of Rory’s work is a mission to offer guidance and support to those navigating the complexities of elder care, ensuring that families have access to the resources and legal services essential for securing the well-being of their loved ones.

Kimberly Buchanan, LCSW

Kimberly Buchanan, LCSW, has recently joined GuideWISE as a Care Coordinator, bringing extensive experience in social work with a focus on healthcare. For the past 28 years, she has dedicated her career to Hospice and Palliative Care, helping individuals and families navigate the complexities of serious illness and end-of-life planning. Throughout her practice, Kim has built strong professional relationships within the community, working closely with hospitals and long-term care facilities.

Having supported countless families facing a loved one’s terminal decline—often with little or no advanced care planning—Kim understands the stress and uncertainty that comes with making difficult decisions. She is deeply committed to the Social Work Code of Ethics, particularly the principles of autonomy and self-determination. Kim believes that when families are confronted with these difficult conversations, having a neutral, compassionate support system can make all the difference. She hopes to provide that guidance and ease the burden for those she serves.

A lifelong resident of the Washington, DC, area, Kim grew up in Montgomery County and has lived in Leesburg for nearly 27 years. She has been married to her husband, Ian, for 30 years, and they have two adult children who are thriving in Arlington. While raising their children, Kim and Ian prioritized introducing them to the beauty of National Parks from a young age. If a family vacation didn’t involve the beach, it meant visiting another National Park—an experience that became a cherished tradition. They now make their own visits when traveling. Kim’s personal goal is to visit every National Park before they disappear.
